Every organization, whether public or private, generates vast amounts of data each day: transactions are completed, requests are received, services are delivered, and resources are consumed. In its raw form, this data conveys little; it is simply a collection of records accumulated across separate systems. Its true value emerges when someone asks: What do these numbers mean? What do they reveal about our performance and the direction in which we are heading? This is precisely the role of the Data Analytics Unit.
The Data Analytics Unit is the specialized function within an organization responsible for collecting data from various sources, organizing it, verifying its quality, and then analyzing and transforming it into clear information, indicators, and insights that decision-makers can use. It can be compared to a translator fluent in two languages: the language of systems and data on one side, and the language of business and decision-making on the other. Its role is to communicate accurately and clearly between the two.
The Unit’s work is not limited to preparing reports, although reports and dashboards are its most visible outputs. Much of its work takes place behind the scenes, beginning with understanding the decision-maker’s question, tracing data sources and verifying their integrity, and ultimately selecting the most appropriate analytical and presentation methods to communicate the message as clearly and efficiently as possible.
